The Street Pole Project

"Torn From the Streets"

In the early aughts, I noticed a shift in the form of street art.  While tagging and throw-ups started to fade, a rise in decals and sticker art began to adorn the Lower East Side. Transitioning from mostly music groups around popular grungy hangouts and the college campuses of NYU and Parsons. The culture of sticker bombing evolved into an expression of branding and individuality that  compete for visual attention.

It's human nature to leave your mark.

Sticker bombing became the equivalent of tagging/getting up! Collecting the most attractive stickers and putting them on canvas for graphic inspiration or direction, my collection grew. Sticker peeling became a scavenger hunt; my daughter, on my shoulders, would get the highest, most unique, stickers from streetlights, signs, walls and doorways.

This literally became a sketchbook on canvas.
